How we treat your data
The quick version
Tech Savvy Mag stores two kinds of personal data. One is the email you send us. The other is a short technical log the web server writes on every visit. Neither is sold, and neither is passed on for ads.
Tech Savvy Mag is the party that holds this data and answers for it. Reach the magazine at info@techsavvymag.com.
Email you send
A phone that will not charge past 80 percent, a router that drops every evening, two laptops you cannot pick between. Readers email us about all of it, at the address above or the one listed on our Contact us page. Email is the only channel we offer.
From each message we save the sending address, any name in your signature, the text and any screenshots attached. That lets us read the problem and reply. Messages are wiped after 12 months.
Server logs
The web server keeps a log in the background, much like the system log on a computer. Each entry can list an IP address, the browser type and version, the page requested and a time stamp. Those entries keep the site up and point to attacks or broken pages. They do not feed any reader profile.
Cookies and trackers
Open your browser's site settings while you read and you will find no tracking or advertising cookies from Tech Savvy Mag. No consent prompt appears for the same reason.
Sale and ad sharing
Tech Savvy Mag does not sell personal information. It also does not share it with ad companies or for any advertising use.
State privacy rights
California's privacy law gives residents rights over the data businesses keep, and several other states have passed privacy laws with similar rights. Tech Savvy Mag applies them to every reader, in every state.
Access means asking what we have stored and getting a copy. Correction means fixing an address or detail that is wrong. Deletion means clearing your messages before the 12 month mark. Opt out means telling us not to sell or share your data, which we record even though we do not do either.
To use one, email info@techsavvymag.com with the right in the subject line. Sending from the same address helps us match your earlier messages. We may ask one follow up question to confirm it is you. A request never leads to worse treatment.
Children
Our guides are written for adults buying and fixing their own devices. The site is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect data from them, which is what COPPA, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, requires.
A parent who learns their child emailed us can ask at the same address. We will delete the message and the address it came from.
